There are up to 2,900 seats in the waiting area, which especially includes rooms for VIP, first-class, and business-class passengers. With first-rate operations and services, Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport plays a key role in circles of highway systems in Zhejiang Province and in the nearby region so that our serving area covers the whole province and extends to southern Jiangsu Province and eastern Anhui Province. The airport enjoys abundant sources of passengers and cargo in these provinces, which have ever-increasing demand of air transport. As a result, we have experienced a rapid growth for the last seven years. The annual capacity increases from 2.98 million passengers and 73,000 tons of cargo in 2001 to 12.673 million and 210,000 tons in 2008; the number of departures and arrivals grows from 36,400 in 2001 to 119,000 in 2008. The airport is ranked 8th out of all 152 Chinese civil aviation airports and has joined other seven domestic counterparts with passenger capacity of more than 10 million since 2007. We host 38 airlines with over 2,400 departures and arrivals each week and serve a network of 160 domestic and international routes connected to 58 cities and regions.

The airport management expects continuous increase of business with an estimated capacity of 166,000 flights and 14 million passengers in 2010 and has made expansion plans. By 2015, we will have completed these projects—a second runway, an international terminal, and another domestic terminal on land of 7,707 mu (5.1 million square meters or 1,270 acres). The projects will take an investment of 7 billion RMB yuan (one billion dollars). Upon completion, the airport will be able to take 25,600,000 passengers, 500,000 tons of cargo, and 260,000 flights annually. And till 2035, these figures will rise to 52,000,000, one million, and 500,000 respectively.
