Introduction of a global recycling standards for textile and apparel

In response to brands and retailers on the strong demand for environmentally friendly

textiles, management, union certification bodies to develop the first global recycling

standards for textile and apparel (GRS), in order to ensure that the supply chain through

the production of greater transparency in the procurement of the right.
The new GRS is a three-tier system, according to the recovery of each product standards are

divided into copper standard, silver standard and gold standard. The gold standard for the

highest demand products contain 95-100 of recycled materials, silver and standard products

contain 70-95% of the waste material, while the standard GRSlogo copper products will need

to contain not less than 30% of the waste material.
All standard products must display the percentage of recycled components, and put up the

appropriate gold, silver, copper GRS logo.
Management Coalition head MarkProsé Certificate Authority, said the development of global

recycling standards in response to the growing needs of the textile industry to support

their production of environmentally friendly products from recycled materials, the pillars

of this standard is to track - plus - tracking system, made of textile factories and brands

product composition on the recovery of the request for support.
Management Alliance say that for the track - plus - tracking system, they will use a proven

trading system to replace the virtual on-line system, because not everyone in the supply

chain costs or are willing to expose any secrets.
According to GRS, textiles use of recycled material will be based on scientific proof system

(SCS) has announced the standard.
In addition to raw material specifications, the processing of this standard include

environmental standards. It includes strict requirements in wastewater treatment and

chemical use (according to the Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS), as well as Oeko-

Tex100.
Social responsibility factors have also been included in the GRS, aimed at ensuring the

health and safety of workers, support workers, labor rights, to comply with the

International Labor Organization (ILO) to develop standards.
